The once hard-to-find EP āMahalā by rising three-piece band Glass Beams is now finally available as a widely distributed domestic CD edition, complete with a newly written booklet. To celebrate the release, a strictly limited T-shirt set and a limited-run cassette tape will be launched at the same time.
Based in Melbourne and formed around Rajan Silva, Glass Beams craft a mysterious blend of East and West, fusing live instrumentation with electronica to create exotic, psychedelic soundscapes that feel both ancient and futuristic. Inspired by Silvaās Indian heritage, formative memories of watching āConcert for Georgeā at Londonās Royal Albert Hall on DVD with his father, and a wide-ranging record collection spanning B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, R.D. Burman, Ananda Shankar, and Kalyanji Anandji, the bandās music transcends borders and eras.
Following the viral success of their 2021 debut EP āMirageā and a 20-minute unreleased piece that amassed millions of views in its early live form, Glass Beams returned to their home studio after their 2023 tour to fully record that expansive composition, now presented as the EP āMahal.ā
